My GO-TO PCOS Adrenal Mocktail
As someone who has PCOS, I know firsthand how tricky it can be to manage symptoms while trying to keep your hormones balanced. Over the years, I’ve tried so many different approaches—some worked wonders, and others, not so much. One thing I discovered along the way that really helped me? Adrenal cocktails!
These little drinks might sound fancy, but they’re actually super simple and packed with nutrients that can do wonders for your adrenals (and your hormones).
Why Supporting Your Adrenals Matters When You Have PCOS
If you’ve got PCOS, chances are you’re no stranger to stress—whether it’s physical, emotional, or hormonal. For me, stress always seemed to make my symptoms worse. I’d feel more fatigued, crave sugar like crazy, and notice my hormones spiraling out of control.
Turns out, that’s because chronic stress can overstimulate the adrenal glands, which are responsible for producing cortisol (the stress hormone). When your cortisol levels are out of whack, it can throw off other hormones too, like insulin and androgens, which are already tricky with PCOS. This can lead to:
-
Irregular periods
-
Weight gain, especially around the belly
-
Intense sugar cravings
-
Mood swings and anxiety
-
Total exhaustion
When I started focusing on supporting my adrenals, everything changed. I had more energy, my sugar cravings settled down, and my hormones started to feel more balanced. That’s where adrenal cocktails came in—they’re such an easy way to give your adrenals the love they need.
What Is an Adrenal Cocktail?
Don’t let the name fool you—this isn’t your typical happy hour drink! An adrenal cocktail is a nutrient-rich beverage designed to replenish the minerals your adrenals rely on to function properly. These drinks are amazing for stabilising blood sugar, boosting energy, and helping your body handle stress better.
Here’s what makes them so special:
-
Vitamin C: Helps your adrenals recover and reduces stress-induced inflammation.
-
Potassium: Essential for energy production and keeping your electrolytes balanced.
-
Sodium: Supports hydration and proper adrenal function.
-
Magnesium: Calms the nervous system and helps regulate cortisol levels.
I’ve found that drinking an adrenal cocktail mid-morning or mid-afternoon works best. It’s like a gentle reset for your body that keeps you feeling steady and energised (its also perfect for when you have friends over or want to make a nice non-alcoholic drink!)
My PCOS-Friendly Adrenal Mocktail Recipe
Here’s my go-to recipe for an adrenal mocktail that’s perfect for anyone with PCOS. It’s easy to make, tastes amazing, and gives your body the support it needs.
Ingredients:
-
½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice (for vitamin C)
-
¼ teaspoon high-quality celtic sea salt or Himalayan pink salt (for sodium)
-
½ cup coconut water (a natural source of potassium)
-
1 teaspoon coconut cream (adds an extra boost of potassium and good fats)
-
Optional: 1 scoop collagen powder (for added protein to stabilise blood sugar)
-
Ice cubes and a slice of orange for garnish
Instructions:
-
Combine the orange juice, coconut water, sea salt, and coconut cream in a glass.
-
Stir well until everything is fully dissolved.
-
Add ice cubes and garnish with a slice of orange.
-
Sip slowly and enjoy!
I love having this when I start to feel that mid-afternoon slump. It’s refreshing and leaves me feeling balanced instead of reaching for something sugary.
Other Natural Ways I Support My Adrenals
While adrenal cocktails are a game-changer, they’re not the only tool in my kit. Two other things that have been lifesavers for me are Zenhood and Cysterhood teas.
-
Zenhood Tea: This calming blend of supercharged adaptogens and herbs is a MUST for anyone wanting to help support their adrenals or are dealing with stress or sleep troubles. It’s specifically designed to lower cortisol, balance hormones and support adrenal health, making it perfect for winding down at night.
-
Cysterhood Tea: Crafted specifically for women with PCOS, Cysterhood Tea is a blend of powerful, hormone-balancing herbs designed to support your body naturally. This tea helps manage PCOS symptoms, reduce inflammation, boost fertility, stabilise blood sugar levels, and promote overall hormonal harmony.
Incorporating these teas into your routine alongside an adrenal cocktail can help control symptoms and keep hormones balanced.
